Twitter may allow a 10k character limit, tweeters aren't feeling it Live

Reports say Twitter may increase its character limit from 140 to 10,000, which is obviously a big change from the service's beginnings. The technology news and analysis site Re/code says the company is shooting for a launch date towards the end of the first quarter of 2016.

Apparently Twitter is testing a version of the product now, where tweets appear normally but with a button to click if you want to read tweets longer than 140 characters. So timelines may look the same, but users can choose to expand tweets if they are longer.

According to the Re/code article, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has been trying to get more users through new updates, like the new "moments" summaries. But this possible new update has media members embracing the current character limit, including our own photojournalist Robert Cohen.

And other users echoed the media's feelings.

Even Darth Vader chimed in.

According to The Guardian, the stock market felt the same way. The company's shares fell more than 2% after the news. If Twitter wanted quick feedback, they definitely got it.
