Our crews are regularly out, as priorities permit, clearing and sweeping roadways along the 6,000 miles of shoulder in the greater St. Louis area. In many cases, no sooner have we gone through and cleared/picked up the roadway when there is debris back on the roadway. When there is a prediction for severe weather, our crews also go out and do what they can to prevent the drains from clogging. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Thank for the opportunity to pose questions to the powers that be via this forum. This issue is for the City—I have seen the same issues addressed in previous chats, but no resolution has occurred. Can the City sit down with Ameren and mandate that they remove the construction barriers on Truman Parkway that has taken out a whole lane in front of their headquarters? I have not seen any work done there in several weeks. In a previous chat, the response from the City was that they would reach out to Ameren, but nothing has done. Can the City fine Ameren and/or their contractor for this? On a related note, can the City take control of the traffic signal at Truman Parkway and Papin? Others have complained about this issue numerous times, and the last response from the City was that they “believe that Ameren controls this signal”. Why is that allowed when the City should have oversight of the traffic signals and not Ameren?

There are a lot of currently planned and funded projects across the state of Missouri along I-70. You can see more details on what has been studied and what is currently in the works here: Improve I-70 | Missouri Department of Transportation (modot.org). Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

This is for the city (unless the state now maintains it).
It "feels like everything old is new again" regarding the N-bound lanes of Kingshighway, from the merge with Christy to Oleatha.
Years ago, myself and others repeatedly all-but begged to have these lanes - especially the curb one - repaired, as they were in terrible shape: the right one eventually was resurfaced, but has been rendered abysmal again (primarily due to more work from Spire - although I think some water main repairs also occurred).
A while back, some sort of major changes to K were teased here, but "emergency surgery" is needed beforehand: the conditions on this stretch are now about at "developing nation" status (and we're back to most vehicles stacking up in the left through lane, as the other is best-suited for ones with an off-road suspension).
Thanks. -

A St. Louis County contractor currently is improving McKelvey, from Ameling north to Glenpark. This project will include removing and replacing McKelvey's pavement. Work is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation

The long sweeping fly-over ramp from southbound 141 to eastbound I-44 has several issues. First it is in constant need of having debris swept up due to large trucks exiting the nearby landfill and garden supply business. Secondly, as I pass Vance Rd on southbound 141 I am in the lane that feeds this ramp and there is repeated traffic that also want to exit but instead of getting into this lane early always pass on my left and then try to merge into the traffic lane I'm in causing disruption to my lane and the lane they are trying to move from. This causes backups especially in my lane. This is especially problamatic during evening rush. Can something be done to correct these issues?

As far as the debris you mention -- we always encourage truck traffic carrying items to make sure that their loads are covered -- we do sweep this area (as well as all the other 6,000 miles of shoulder in the greater St. Louis area) on a rotating schedule. As far as your other concern, there will always be drivers with differing opinions on when the correct time to merge is, especially on a free-flowing ramp such as this flyover. That is preliminary work leading up to an upcoming construction project along the stretch of Mackenzie between Watson Road and Gravois. That project should start later this year, and will continue for about two years. James again. The debris from trucks on the I-44 flyover ramp is from their tires that have picked up mud and other debris that then is put onto the roadway. It's not from uncovered loads.
And can the lane to exit onto this ramp be designated as exit only? This lane also serves I-44 westbound traffic so it could be designated as exit/exits only. -
If it is mud, then there isn't a lot more we can do to prevent it It's possible that you might talk to the municipality of Valley Park and see if they can work with the business owners to reduce that debris coming onto the roads from those businesses. Unfortunately, the exit ramp doesn't meet the requirements to be designated as exit only -- and that wouldn't prevent the traffic from coming down the lane immediately to the left of the ramp and cutting over onto the ramp.
