Most lighting is only on Route 370 at the interchanges -- headlights should provide most of the rest of the lighting typically needed. When we do a rebuild in that area, we can look at lighting, however, the only work currently scheduled along that stretch of Route 370 is pavement repair and resurfacing. MoDOT doesn't maintain Elm (only the roadway right at Elm), so you might check with St. Charles to see if they have any further plans for lighting. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Typically, a driver should use as much of the merge lane as possible to merge over into traffic safely (and without backing up traffic on the main line). The driver merging into traffic should match the speed of traffic on the main roadway (and the drivers on the main roadway should also watch for merging traffic and give them a place to enter the roadway.) However, it is possible for aggressive drivers to misuse the lanes during times of high congestion. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

In last week's chat, a reader asked: "Does St. Louis County still plan on adding an east-bound Big Bend turn lane from Berry Road to Grant Road?" ST. LOUIS COUNTY'S REPLY: Yes, we do. Our current schedule calls for construction to begin some time in 2022. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation
What time and direction are you seeing this issue? There may be a sensor that is out. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communciations
They may be waiting on parts -- I have checked with our team to see if I can get an update. If I get anything, I will share it. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Right now, it looks like they may be making the switch in early January -- we'll know more as we get closer (especially if we have any inclement weather.) The project will be completely done in early 2022; however, we anticipate all lanes of eastbound and westbound traffic to be in their final configurations sometime in spring. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
You are very welcome! Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Yes, it did. I'm checking now to determine what agency maintains this intersection David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation
It does depend on where the issue is. MoDOT maintains Lewis and Clark (and a little bit of the roadway on either side of the intersection). I have passed it along to our maintenance team to check into and see if the pothole is on MoDOT maintained roadway; if not, we'll pass it along to the appropriate maintenance organizations. If you mean the Meramec River Bridge project at I-44 and I-270, they should be moving eastbound traffic to the eastbound lanes in early January. After that, they have some work to do to completely move westbound traffic onto the new westbound lanes. Probably take until sometime in the spring to complete that. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communciations
It's set for next year. It had to be delayed a little bit to prevent interfering with the traffic detouring from I-70 due to the eastbound Blanchette Bridge work. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
