Last week, a chatter asked if the Post-Dispatch could add a person from St. Charles County. I contacted the County's road department, and there will be a representative joining us beginning next week, on March 13. Thank you for the suggestion!
I've asked our signal team to check out this signal to make sure everything is working correctly. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
There is a lot of traffic entering and exiting the interstate there. Traffic has to merge out from Kingshighway onto the interstate, while traffic is merging over to get to Hampton; You also have traffic trying to get into position to get to Clayton/Skinker, while working around the traffic merging from Hampton onto the interstate. As far as your other question, it's awfully difficult to unseat an incumbent, even one running as an independent, but the series was called Benson... Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
My traffic experts tell me that Bamberger doesn't have a signal, but that Spring does. Both Spring and Hydraulic do not have detection, which means that it would be fairly challenging to coordinate them with Gustine. They are scheduled for replacement (with signals with detection) this year, so traffic flow along Gravois should be smoother once that is complete. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
There is a definite need for additional funding to update and improve roads and bridges across the state. How that happens is a great discussion for Missouri state legislators and leaders with significant input from their constituents. Our path forward is simple -- we will continue to use the resources available to provide a state transportation system that is safe, innovative and reliable. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communciations
It looked like Amtrak ridership may have been down slightly, but revenues were up last year. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
This lane, as well as Big Bend's southbound curb lane immediately south of Manchester, will be intermittently closed for the next two months. Once Spire completes its work at this location, a St. Louis County contractor will remove the existing traffic signal and pole at the southwest corner of the intersection, and install a new one. David Wrone, St. Louis County
We have finite resources, as does any transportation agency. The plows/salters that cleared your subdivisions would move on to St. Louis County-maintained major roads as soon as they were finished with your neighborhood. If we were to divert them from that mission, those roads wouldn't be plowed or salted as soon as they could have been. Too, we operate under budget constraints and obligations - again, just like other agencies. We have "X" dollars that are appropriated for use on St. Louis County roads and streets. We are dedicated to doing just that. And, generally speaking, if MoDOT is contending with a sustained winter event, so is St. Louis County's Department of Transportation. It isn't a matter of us having half our fleet sitting idle in their districts while MoDOT is fully deployed. We work around the clock for as long as necessary to keep our 3,200 lanes miles of roads as safe as conditions and human effort allow. David Wrone, St. Louis County
We are aware of it -- the repair is greater than what our maintenance team can handle. It needs a fairly significant repair, but we need decent temperatures to complete that. We are continuing to watch it and will continue to make temporary repairs as needed. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Potholes on Hampton, between Fyler and Chippewa, are in the system and our patch crews will address. The frequency of winter events has both caused the potholes as well as limited our ability to get out there as much as we want to. Thanks for your patience.
It does look like you have a good amount of sight distance here. However, I have reached out to our traffic and construction teams to take a look and see if they have any thoughts on increasing that, while still making sure that the pedestrians there remain safe. If I hear anything back from them, I will share it. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications.
Our traffic engineers will check out the vehicle detection issue. In addition to that, the intersection operation at Robert has been discussed in previous chats. As such we have evaluated it and revised its programming to operate independently outside of the morning and evening peak periods of commuter traffic so that is more responsive to on-demand traffic activity for side streets during the times of lighter off-peak volumes on Morgan Ford. However, during the morning and evening rush hours it will operate on a longer cycle length to match nearby signals in order to guarantee proper signal progression is maintained between these intersections.
You don't say, but I assume you are asking about northbound 141 at Hawkins? Or are you asking about traffic moving off Hawkins onto 141? Any additional information might be helpful for our traffic engineers. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
We have a number of locations for pothole repair in our system already, but to ensure that your observations of such conditions are accurately recorded and included in this please visit our website: www.stlouis-mo.gov and follow the link to "Report a Problem" to reach our Citizen's Service Bureau. If you have done so, we are addressing the potholes now, if not please take the time to fill out the information to get it into our system. Thank you!
Thanks -- I have passed it along to our traffic team to take a look at it. Route 141 does consistently have the most traffic so there may not be a lot they can do earlier in the day. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
If the weather cooperates, we anticipate reopening the road by the end of May. David Wrone, St. Louis County
I have been doing this for a while, but Google Maps is a very good friend of mine during the chat room. Thank you for the kudos. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
I'll forward your query to our signals group, and will post a reply in a future chat. David Wrone, St. Louis County
If you have some specifics on Chippewa (cross streets) , I can share it with our maintenance team to take a look at them and make patches. We do look at ways to reduce pavement seams in the wheel paths during resurfacing work. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Is that during morning or evening rush hour? I can ask our signal team to take a look at it. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
I can ask our traffic experts to take a look at it, but this is really more about aggressive driving and proper merging techniques. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Quick reminder that next week, a representative from St. Charles County's road department will be joining the chat. So get your St. Chuck questions ready...
I have passed the question on to our traffic team, but haven't gotten a response back from them. I will share something next week, if I have heard from them. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Great -- I'll share it with our traffic engineers. Thanks for responding. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
