Last week, a Road Crew reader shared the following information: "The lights on Clayton Road at St. Rita, Bellevue, and Demun need to be better coordinated. I'm not sure if this is done on purpose, but they are terribly out of sync and during non-peak times, Bellveue cycles at random with no cross traffic present. Thank you." ST. LOUIS COUNTY'S REPLY: Subsequent to receiving your communication, our signals team inspected the traffic signals on Clayton Road between Skinker Boulevard and Big Bend Boulevard. Although no malfunctions were discovered, our observations did reveal the need for minor timing adjustments at each signal to improve the coordination of the traffic signals along Clayton Road. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact Jon Dennison, of our signals group, at (314)-615-0204. David Wrone, St. Louis County
We do intend to update timing on FPP. Traffic engineers are already working on this & you should see changes in weeks to come.
I'll forward this to our signals group, and will report back next week on the results of their investigation. David Wrone, St. Louis County
We have a resurfacing project scheduled to begin next summer on Clayton Road, from Skinker to the City of Ladue city limits. The road will receive an entirely new driving surface, as well as curb and sidewalk replacement where needed. David Wrone, St. Louis County
Thanks for the question about the bridge surface work on I-64 at the Clayton/Warson Road overpass. This is an epoxy overlay to help extend the life of the bridge deck, and ultimately the structure below the deck, too. We schedule a number of these epoxy overlays every year as part of our preventive maintenance work on our bridges. MoDOT is responsible for the maintenance of 10,394 bridges, so it's critical to have a plan to take care of them.
Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
Thanks for the feedback on the traffic sensor malfunction. We will pass this on to our signal team that investigates concerns such as this. In the future, you can call our customer service center at 314-275-1500. We are here 24/7/365 to take your calls. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
Thanks for the concern about the trash and debris along EB 44 from 270 to Sappington. I've referred this to our field crews in that area that manage trash control. I haven't heard when they have this scheduled, but if I get an update before the end of this session, I will certainly post it. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
Thanks for the compliment about the zipper merge campaign. It really does make a difference if used correctly. As far as at signalized dual left turns on to a ramp that merges into one lane fairly quickly, it's a whole different story. Try as we may, helping motorists see the advantage of using both lanes of a dual turn situation is very difficult. Drivers know what the next move is and often make the choice to be in what they determine the most comfortable place for them to be. If you give it a try, maybe others will follow your lead! Goodluck! Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
From what I know about the budget for the third phase of the Page extension, it was a struggle just to connect from Mid Rivers to I-64, which left no money for upgrades, even just a little bit of widening to create this exit only lane to Westbound 94. From the day that project opened, we've been working to figure out how to fund some additional improvements there. There is now a project in development that is moving forward. There is no exhibit available at this point showing the proposed improvements, but the project entails the following: 1) Extending the right shoulder of Westbound 364 to allow the 3rd lane to become the exit only lane to Westbound 94 (your requested improvement). 2) Constructing additional pavement on the left side of Eastbound 364, which will shift traffic to the north to give motorists entering from Eastbound 94 more room to merge and result in less conflicts and congestion. I hope this answers your questions. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
We will have the WB bridge reopen in December. In March 2018, we will close the EB bridge and traffic will be in a similar condition as it is today until December 2018. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
I'll pass on your concerns about the signing on Route 30 at New Sugar Creek to our engineering team to take a look at. Thanks!! Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
We will have an answer for you next week.
Thanks for the notification. We will send our crews out to address this. In the future, our customer service center is staffed 24/7, so feel free to call us and not wait for the chatroom. 31-275-1500. Jeanne Olubgoun, MoDOT
The 7th Street ramp to WB 44 is open to traffic. That happened several weeks ago. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT
We have a spraying program that works to control those weeds popping up. Sometimes they grow faster than we can get there to manage them. Thanks for sharing the concern with us. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
I will pass this on to our construction staff managing the project. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT
We will certainly take a look at it and work with our partners at City Traffic to see if it's possible to improve the flow. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
Jay, we will take a look at locations like 70 and Mid Rivers to see if we can improve the signing for the left turners off the ramps. Jeanne Olubogun, MoDOT Traffic Engineer
