Question for MoDOT. On 64 eastbound to 270 southbound, traffic stops on the blended ramps. People fail to realize that there is 3/4 mile of pavement before that lane drops. To encourage a zipper approach, could MoDOT add signage or some other solution? Maybe those plastic lane dividers/flexible pylons or re-striping to help the situation? When traffic backs up onto 270, many rear-end accidents occur. Would seem a cheap fix is the answer. Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to share your observations. You are correct that people do not use the 2000 feet of pavement before the right most lane merges near the Clayton Road overpass. We have reviewed the signage and there is an added lane sign present. We will review to see if any additional signs may help out. We are hesitant to add flexible pylons as these are tough to maintain and must be removed/replaced each year before snow season. Thanks for the suggestions.Brian UmfleetDistrict Traffic Engineer

Unfortunately, it's going to be several years before wholesale improvements will be made to this stretch of Laclede Station. Under our current project schedule, Laclede Station will be resurfaced from Newport Avenue (immediately north of Big Bend) north to Manchester in '25 or '26. The traffic signal is on red flash at the intersection of Ferguson and Olive. A few months ago there was a solid red light not working at this signal. It was changed to a red arrow pointing up One of your readers noted that this is not right and he referred to a document that a red arrow pointing up is not alllowed. Your thoughts?

There is a new traffic signal on Mackenzie Rd at the entrance to Rogers Middle School. The green light for Mackenzie is very short, producing backups every morning. I've seen it almost to Heege. Even if it's not backed up that far, it takes several cycles to get through the light. There currently isn't any traffic coming from the new subdivision opposite the school, so that shouldn't affect it. It wasn't like this with the previous signal. Are adjustments planned?

David, you are correct that we would not program the signal to function in this manner. It sounds like the vehicle detection may have failed on one of the approaches. We will take a look at this and hopefully get it resolved shortly.Thank youBrian UmfleetDistrict Traffic Engineer

The East & Westbound inside left lane (fast lane) on highway 44 between 141 & Antire Road is horrible. Pot holes. Seems in the cement deteriorating. Yet, the other lanes seemed to have been paved and are smooth. Will the fast lane EVER be redone? I'm waiting for my tires to blow out due to the horrible shape this lane is in going both directions.

We are aware that the inside lane of I-44 between Antire Road and Hwy. 141 is deteriorating. Our maintenance forces are continually monitoring and patching this stretch of road. We have also been using a contractor to perform longer term repairs. Ultimately, this section of roadway will need to be repaired and resurfaced. We are working on the scope of the permanent fix, but nothing has been scheduled at this time.Brian UmfleetMoDOT District Traffic Engineer
