I'll have our signals group investigate. David Wrone, St. Louis County
This section of Ballas Road is certainly not in optimal condition. Some of the issues you've described may stem from temporary patches on utility cuts (i.e., excavations in the pavement done by Missouri American Water or MSD), and which are awaiting permanent patches. I'll have our inspectors investigate. We're developing plans to resurface this part of Ballas. However, work won't begin until '20 or '21, at the earliest. David Wrone, St. Louis County
I think the maintenance team cleared the material within the MoDOT right of way (which I believe is within the two ramps.)) Dave and I have communicated, and he'll pass it on to the county's maintenance team. If it isn't them, we'll make sure we get it passed to the correct people (or taken care of) as appropriate. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Our traffic engineers will take a look at signal timing there during the PM rush as described.
That intersection carries a lot of pedestrian/school children foot traffic where no rights on red help limit potential for conflicts. We will continue to monitor this location.
I will pass it along to our maintenance team to double-check and make sure they have cleaned the area under the bridge within our right of way. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Thank you for your comments. The responsibility for purchasing any pre-emptive gear is still the responsibility of the requestor (city/county/fire district, etc.). Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Local law enforcement would be responsible for ticketing any aggressive drivers who are blocking the interchange. If you can give me some specifics (time/day/direction you are seeing the issue) I can pass it along to our traffic team to see if they can make any further adjustments. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
39th should be reopened (except for short periods as crews are working on the bridge). Tower Grove is projected to close underneath I-44 for four weeks, probably sometime next week. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Typically, during rush periods, signs on the interstate alternate between the travel times to major routes and a warning message, during inclement weather. During off-peak hours, when travel times are normal, they simply run an warning or other message. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
We couldn't move the lights without 1) a major construction project and b) interfering with the proper flow of traffic at the intersection. I will share your thoughts with the traffic team, though. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Within the hour. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
I'll forward your report to our maintenance group. Thank you for sharing! David Wrone, St. Louis County
You don't give any specifics, so it is difficult to make anything beyond general comments. Typically, unless you have a problem, travel times are about the same along the interstate -- times are rounded up slightly (usually to the nearest minute), so if there is a 5 mph slowdown, there may not be a significant impact on travel times. Alert messages for crashes have to be done by one of our staff -- they need to check the cameras to determine the situation, get emergency services heading toward the scene, write the message and get it out. Sometimes that can take a little time. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Since you have two left turn lanes on northbound, it is unsafe to have a yielding left turn onto Baptist Church Road. A large vehicle could be turning from the outside lane and block a vehicle on the inside lane from seeing oncoming traffic. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
We will check detection at that intersection - thanks for heads up!
They have no plans to put any signs, such as you mentioned, in the Shrewsbury work zone at this time. We continue to monitor the flow of traffic through this zone and the one between Kingshighway and Grand for safety and traffic flow. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Since I-44 is shifted over to the westbound lanes, there is no need for I-44 to be closed during the demolition of the eastbound interstate bridge over Kingshighway. As a note, neither Detonty nor Lafayette cross Kingshighway (we reserve the right to be human and make mistakes); Kingshighway is closed between the ramp for westbound I-44 and Shaw. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
I've asked our signal team to look at this. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
