At this point, there are no plans to make any changes around the I-64/U.S. 40 corridor near Hanley/Brentwood. You do have a lot of traffic entering and exiting the highway in several places along that area which create the congestion as traffic moves on and off the highway. Drivers should be respectful of other drivers attempting to enter or leave the interstate, and, during times of high congestion, consider taking turns merging (somewhat like a zipper). We have crews working to pick up trash along the corridor this week; however, if you have specific areas where you are seeing the debris, I can certainly pass them along again for attention as they are going through there. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

I know that this is probably a rhetorical question, but is there anything that can be done to better manage the "soccer moms" who insist on blocking a lane of traffic, every afternoon, waiting to pull into the various schools in the area? Restripe the roads to create adequate stacking lanes? Require schools to provide more parking/waiting areas on their own property? While reduced school speed limits provide some more reaction time, it does create a safety hazard to have multiple vehicles unexpectedly stopped in a traffic lane. Examples include Sappington, in Crestwood, and Big bend, in webster Groves.

Honestly, Laclede Station needs to be addressed - resurfaced - before Makenzie but that doesn't mean both don't need work. Having an entire lane of Laclede Station, from Heege to S Rock Hill in such bad shape it is undrivable should be a concern but it seems like it is just being brushed off as not a big deal.

I have a question about the condition of Laclede Station between Watson and S Rock Hill, as well as Mackenzie between Watson and Gravois. There was work done this summer on both stretches where it looks like they were doing sewer or water work in the middle lanes of both roads. That work is all but completed now but the those lanes impacted by the work are basically undriveable. On Laclede Station, in particular, people ride the right hand lane until the last minute to use the turn lane on the S Rock Hill. Is there any plan to fix that work or are we stuck with these unusable lanes until enough cars are damaged someone is forced to take action?

Missouri American Water will be required to restore all damaged pavement to its pre-project condition. (The water company uprooted Laclede Station from Heege to Rock Hill Road to install a new water main.) The uneven/poor pavement you're encountering now will be replaced - hopefully by this fall - with "normal"/smooth-driving pavement. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation

Chris -- in reference to your question about the utility work along Mackenzie Road between Watson and Gravois. There is still utility relocation work underway along that stretch of roadway. Typically, the utility company is responsible for returning the roadway to its original condition; however, they usually wait until most of their work is done to do a final pave/patch. That way, they can ensure that the work that is done holds up before putting in the final repairs. We have reached out to the water company for some repairs that need to be addressed sooner. If you have areas along the corridor which are particularly bad, you can share them with us here or our customer service 24/7 at 314-275-1500 and we'll work with the utility company. The relocation work along Mackenzie is in preparation of some upcoming sidewalk work along the corridor. That will be followed (in about two years) by a resurfacing. I love the electronic message boards along the highway. However, I wish they could change one thing. When there isn't a unique situation going on, they say how long the drive time is to certain exits. That is fine, but when there is a unique situation like an accident you put that message up but it alternates with the standard message. For example a couple weeks ago I was driving East on 40/64 approaching 170. The message board says CRASH and before I could read about the crash it changed to saying how long it takes to get to Jefferson etc. By the time it switched back to the crash info I was already driving by the sign.
