Confused about construction? Potholes rattling your car? Ask the Road Crew, 1 p.m.

Ask the experts from the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Louis and St. Charles counties and St. Louis City your questions about highways and roads. The live chat starts at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Good morning.  David Wrone is out of the office today and will not be joining the chat.  If you do have any questions for St. Louis County, I will share them with him and he will have responses for you in a future chat.  Andrew Gates, MoDOT Commuinication
Thank for the opportunity to pose questions to the powers that be via this forum. This issue is for the City—I have seen the same issues addressed in previous chats, but no resolution has occurred. Can the City sit down with Ameren and mandate that they remove the construction barriers on Truman Parkway that has taken out a whole lane in front of their headquarters? It has been over a year since they took out the lane which is WAY too long. I drive this area regularly and hardly ever see any work being done there. In a previous chat, the response from the City was that they would reach out to Ameren, but nothing has been done. Can the City fine Ameren and/or their contractor for this? On a related note, can the City take control of the traffic signal at Truman Parkway and Papin? Others have complained about this issue numerous times, and the last response from the City was that they “believe that Ameren controls this signal”. Why is that allowed when the City should have oversight of the traffic signals and not Ameren?
Two timing/detector intersections to check if you don't mind.
141 at Marshall. 141 always stops on the regular for Marshall, at all times of the day, regardless of whether Marshall has traffic or the SB u-turn has traffic. It also does not seem to be connected to any traffic waiting at Vance.
Watson at Elm. During PM rush times, hardly any green time for Watson despite the queue waiting. I was WB at the time, around 4:30.
I have passed them along to our traffic team to check out.  Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communication
Morning - the exit signs for west bound 364 for Muegge n North bound 94 need adjusting - a little confusing when you exit - thanks
There is still a lot of work to be completed around the 364/Muegge/94 interchange until it is complete, and signing is usually one of the last items to be addressed. I have passed your observation to the team working on that project to see if anything can be done in the meantime.  If I hear of any updates, I'll share them. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communication
Thanks again for bringing this concern to my attention. True this project has been lengthy, but Ameren is the authority on the pace and safety of this work. Contrary to suggestions, the City of St Louis does not control all signals in our boundaries. The signal in question just happens to be one of those signals. As with all projects, I ask for patience...Larry Tyler  / Street and Traffic Liaison
I live at the dead end of Ellendale Ave/Ellendale Pl in Maplewood, and I have a complaint about the light at Arsenal & McCausland. The green light here is way too short to turn left (south) on Ellendale aka McCausland and/or go straight at the intersection (Arsenal turns into Emilie St here) into my neighborhood. In addition, the timing it just a few seconds too short if I've turned left onto Arsenal from Jamieson (at another light).

When I'm on Hwy 44 going towards the city, to get home, I take exit 284A - Jamieson. I turn left onto Jamieson (light #1) then take another left onto Arsenal Street (light #2) - the bridge section over the rail yard - to get to the intersection of Arsenal & McCausland (light #3 - the problem). To get home, I only need to drive straight through this intersection (Arsenal turns into Emilie St here), but the light is too short and the timing is off.

As I'm driving down Arsenal St over the bridge, I can see the light at Arsenal & McCausland (light #3) - it is always green as I'm driving down the bridge, but always turns red literally 3 seconds before I get to the intersection, then I have to wait 4 minutes for the light to change again.

Every single time I miss this light. So basically, once I get off Hwy 44 at Jamieson, it takes me a good 5 minutes to get home (to Ellendale Place) because of getting held up at both lights (#2 and #3), even though I'm literally 1/4 of a mile from home. It's even more of a problem because semi trucks use this same light to turn left to get to the railroad hub, and the green light is only long enough to get one tractor trailer through. People end up running this light because the wait is so long, and they're afraid it won't change at all. (The same thing happens at Ellendale and Canterbury when taking a left from Canterbury south onto Ellendale, for what it's worth. Lots of red light runners here.).

Ellendale/McCausland traffic gets 4 minutes of straight green light while anyone turning left at either of these two intersections barely get 10 seconds.

Can you please extend the green light by just at least 5-10 more seconds at Arsenal & McCausland for travelers who need to go straight or turn left from Arsenal St onto McCausland/Ellendale?
There is a really nasty bump on westbound manchester far right lane about 1/4 mile east of hanley.
I'll ask our construction team to take a look at it.  Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communication
  • Thank you for bringing this concern to my attention. I'll refer this issue to our signal technicians for timing assessment. Thanks...Larry Tyler  / Streets & Traffic Liaison
