Good afternoon,
During the construction on I-55, SB Jefferson is now backing up much longer in the evening rush hour to pass Gravois and then further along. I drive this portion at 5pm daily and often will have to sit through several cycles as traffic is backing up to Russell. I know Gravois has major traffic as well, but can this be monitored to ensure it's the proper timing at Jefferson & Gravois? Thank you! -

Prompted by chronic speeding and related traffic accidents in North St. Louis County’s Castle Point neighborhood, St. Louis County’s Department of Transportation will conduct a two-day speed reduction demonstration in the community next week.Weather permitting, the exercise will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday (May 9) and Tuesday (May 10) on Castle Point’s Royal Drive and Princess Drive. DOT personnel will install tires, hazard cones and, if available, flexible curbing on the streets’ pavement to slow motorists’ speed. County transportation employees will also solicit feedback from motorists and residents.“Numerous studies indicate that speeding and collisions are a serious problem in Castle Point,” explained Dave Wrone, a DOT public information manager. “Our goal is to develop solutions to that problem that are both practical and acceptable to residents. Next week’s demonstration will give residents – many of whom have already expressed strong concerns to us about the safety of children playing in the area or walking to and from school - an opportunity to share their thoughts on our proposed measures.”Castle Point residents will be encouraged to take a short, online survey, and to email Adam Spector – DOT’s North Area Engineer – at ASpector@stlouiscountymo.gov if they have questions or wish to provide additional feedback.Design work on the Castle Point improvements project will begin this summer. I have asked for the City to look into this on previous chats, but can you please, please, please do something about the light at Truman Parkway and Papin? Almost on a daily basis when traveling southbound on Truman Parkway during the evening rush hour, I get stopped for ghost traffic at Papin only to watch the light at Chouteau (which is only 360 feet away per Google Earth turn green). By the time that the light at Papin finally turns green (it is also ridiculously long), the light at Chouteau is red. As a result, drivers have to sit through both lights needlessly. In fact, this problem is so ridiculous that I have seen other drivers, including police vehicles run the light at Papin.
Why can’t the Papin light flash at all times like when there are Blues games? This is a senseless waste of time and gas (at $4 a gallon) and well as an increase in air pollution, all for no reason. Can you please give a permanent solution to this some serious attention? -

For MODOT - I know that there is no good answer for this, but earlier today, around 10:30 am, a convoy(?) of 4-5 MODOT maintenance trucks entered NB I-270 at Big Bend with their flashing lights on and proceeded to merge across all lanes of traffic, going maybe 20 mph slower than the flow of traffic, heading over to the left lane. At one point, there were MODOT vehicles, with their lights flashing, in three different lanes. Obviously, this resulted in a lot of braking and lane changing, by everyone else. Perhaps, if they started further back, and were able to merge more gradually (and safely!), there would be less likelihood of a collision happening.

I do know our team strives to try to provide the minimum impact to the roadways as they are trying to maintain the roadway, but it is also helpful for people to pay attention to these vehicles trying to help make sure the road is safe, Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Who's responsible for Jefferson and HWY 64 ? ? Traffic backs up at least 10 blocks north on the southbound lanes where you have the left lanes blocked off
No reason to have 2 dedicated left turn lanes onto eastbound 64. heck there isnt even any lane paint for moving the lanes over -
Right now, there are four lanes on Jefferson north of I-64 and two lanes south of Jefferson (with an exit only to Scott), so the two lanes have to close somewhere. We were finding that traffic tended to travel down the exit only lane simply to get over at the last minute to stay on Jefferson. Our construction team will look at the signal timing to see if anything can be adjusted, and we are looking to stripe on the bridge again soon. We have a resurfacing project set for that area starting next year, although much of the early work there will be sidewalk and pedestrian updates. Until then, our maintenance teams will be doing what they can to maintain the roadway. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

What is happening with the construction project at Lindbergh and Olive in Creve Coeur? I know you attempted to answer about this a month or so ago, but just saying it's a "project" is not helpful. What is the holdup? NOTHING has been done on this for at least two months, likely longer, and it's a mess.

This is a permit project, and so isn't run by MoDOT. However, from what we were told, there were some redesign issues that had to be completed. After that, the organization that applied for the permit had to address some other issues before they can complete construction. The latest we have heard, that project is anticipated to be complete later this summer. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Who is in charge of the Lindbergh & Olive intersection work? You always characterize it as permit work, like you haven't a clue what is happening there. Whose permit is it? Isn't Lindbergh a state highway? Shouldn't the State know something about what is going on there? WHY is it taking so long?

As I stated below, the organization had to do some redesign and then some other coordination before construction can be completed.
