I know in the past the i-70 express lanes were 'reversible.' i'm guessing that is a thing of the past? Also there never seems to be that many vehicles on the express lanes especially during rush hour times so in essence they don't seem very beneficial and perhaps a better use of that are would be to widen i-70 on both sides to keep the bottlenecks down?
-
Currently, the express lanes are closed to work on the ramp from the express lanes to Broadway as part of the Broadway Bridge over I-44 rebuild. Traffic levels are consistently heavier on the westbound lanes of I-44 into the city during both the morning and evening rush. Although splitting the lanes might be an option, all of the existing bridges along that stretch would have to be reconstructed, as portions of the support structures are between the express lanes and the eastbound and westbound lanes. Splitting the lanes as you describe would be unsafe, as there would be a concrete post next to your fast lane. There isn't enough space to simply put a concrete barrier down the middle of the express lanes to have an additional lane of traffic in each direction, separated by a barrier wall, either. When leaving Rogers Middle School in Affton on Mackenzie, one of the signal lights that is on a pole to the left is facing the wrong direction. It should be turned around and facing the direction to the new subdivision on the opposite side of Mackenzie. Also one of the red lights on the signal pole while leaving rogers middle school is burnt out. i've include a map link so you could see what i was referencing.

Thanks for reporting the burnt out red light. I have shared that with our signal team. As far as the other concern, I have discussed that previously with our traffic team for the area, and after they went out and investigated, they shared with me that the signal that you reference is, in fact, correctly positioned at this time. Since it is turned around differently from the image you shared from 2002, it's probably for a future phase of the subdivision construction. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

In response to the signal light facing the wrong way. When that 'wrong way' light pole is red other signal main pole on the otherside of Mackenzie is green which both face the same way, so i'm not sure how that can be facing the right way? Could someone at least look into that. it's very confusing.

We still have several bridges along the I-44 corridor that will need attention in the coming years, so we still will be working along corridor for some time. At this time, we don't have any funding identified for that work. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Exit 20 on westbound 40 in Chesterfield lets you turn left at the light and then turn left again to get onto the eastbound Outer 40 Road. At that second light, there is clear visibility straight ahead with only two lanes of traffic and yet we must often sit at a red light with no cars around. Could that intersection be reviewed so that potentially we could go to a blinking yellow?
-
If I understand where you are talking about, the movement from Chesterfield Parkway to the South Outer 40 is a two-lane left turn. Due to safety concerns with traffic in one lane blocking the clear view of the on-coming traffic, we don't make two-lane left turns blinking yellow. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications.

We've run into an unexpected conflict with an underground utility system near the project site, and are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue. I don't have a time line to share, but will post again on the subject in a future Road Crew. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation.

Have the lights been re-programmed with manchester road temporarily closed west of Hanley? perhaps I missed something, but I while i was at a red light (northbound hanley), it appeared that all the other directions of traffic were also at a red light, as if waiting for the no longer needed east bound manchester/hanley traffic left turn to end. thanks.

As I understand, we do have traffic experts watching the movement of traffic along the corridor (including the detour routes). I'll ask our construction team to have them verify that all the appropriate movements are in place here. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
