A bridge on Pritchard Farm Road, immediately south of Route 141 in Maryland Heights, will remain indefinitely closed following Tuesday's storms. Powerful flood waters from Fee Fee Creek washed away the protective cocoon of rocks that ordinarily protects the structure's vertical support columns. Those columns are now completely exposed to the creek's current. The bridge will remain closed while St. Louis County DOT bridge engineers assess repair options. With the interstate flooding, I am guessing that the inlets were clogged. Is that a constant battle that MoDOT has to keep up with? I see a lot of trash on the highway, to include shredded tire pieces, parts of headlights, etc. Please note that this is not a veiled criticism of MoDOT.

Our crews regularly clear drains along the roadways we maintain, and we also spend a great deal of time clearing the shoulders of the 6,000 miles of shoulder we maintain around the greater St. Louis area. Yesterday's issues with the roadway had two primary reasons -- 1) It was a historic level of flooding -- we had a lot of water in a very short amount of time. 2) there were a lot of creeks and small areas of water that became overwhelmed due to the water and they then spilled over onto the interstate/roadways. That being said, we do strongly encourage people traveling along the roadways to cover any loads they may have in a truck, and, to save any trash they may have as they are traveling and to deposit it in a trash can when they stop (or when they reach their final destination. John, I'm sorry that's happening, but I'm not sure why. I used to get a prompt to send the email if I opened the chat, but I haven't been getting that recently.I try to move the chat back up onto the homepage just before it happens, so readers can find the link. Otherwise, check this site for links to upcoming chats:

At this point, it is a little too soon to tell. Crews are still evaluating the impacts of yesterday's flooding and seeing what may have to be readdressed in the construction zone. If we hear of any delays, we will certainly share them as soon as they are determined. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communciations

Are there plans to repave Ballas Road between Manchester Road and Dougherty Ferry? This busy thoroughfare is extremely uneven after partial repaving. Also, there is a pothole that needs to be filled next to the median at Manchester Road and Ballas Road.
It makes left turns onto Manchester challenging, Thanks. Patty -

From what we have been told, crews have been out there putting on the final touches and wrapping up various items along that permit project. I am assured, barring complications from weather, that it should be opening within the week. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communciations

We're scheduled to put this project out for bid this fall, with construction beginning either late this year or next spring. In addition to resurfacing Bayless from Union to Lemay Ferry Road, the project will - among other improvements - include the removal and replacement of the bridge immediately east of I-55. However, I'll have to check about the current work you reference. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation
