Thanks to all of the agencies for their hard work cleaning up after the stomr last week! My question is not about the snow, but for MODOT about a construction project. New stoplights were recently installed at both the Spoede and Old Olive interactions on Olive Blvd in Creve Coeur. These new light are timed exactly out of phase for traffic on Olive. When one goes green, the other immediately goes red, and vice versa. The only cars that get through are those that fit in the short space between the two lights. It is like trying to run traffic through a lock and dam. There are huge backups during evening rush hour (5-6 p), with traffic back over the Lindberg overpass and to Schulte. It take a large number of light cycles to get through. Can these be fixed soon? I know they are knew but the light pattern is arbitrary and really screwed up. If this has to wait for construction to end then can you post detour signs to route people to Ladue and Page until construction is done? Olive is basically impassible during rush hour. This wasn't a problem before the new lights were installed. Can you also tell fire and police to avoid this intersection? With all of the construction there is no space for emergency vehicles to get through during evening rush hour with the lights so screwed up.

First of all, thanks for your kind words!. As far as your concern about Old Olive and Spoede, when these two signals were first installed, they were not tied into our signal fiber network, so they were operating independently. The heavy snow last week prevented the crews from working on that, but over the last few days, they have been completing that tie in, and should be finished with that soon. So, you should see an improvement in the flow of traffic, if not today, by the end of the week. We will continue to monitor these signals to make sure that the timing and coordination with other signals operates correctly. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

How about looking east road crew? I live in Collinsville, Il and on Route 157 between The Belt Line and Main Street in both directions there are 8 stoplights and at each light the white line where you are supposed to stop is completely faded out so you can’t see where to stop. I’ve seen numerous cars with ‘out of town plates’ sometimes pull into the middle of the intersections. This could be dangerous. I stopped by the Illinois Department of Transportation office which is right there. Even talked to the guy there, but still no new paint….HELP!!!

Unfortunately, that would be the responsibility of the Illinois Department of Transportation, who don't participate in the road crew chat. You might reach out to them through their on-line form: Submit Question/Comments (illinois.gov). Andrew Gates, Missouri Department of Transportation.

You are welcome. Ballas is very close to that I-270/I-64 interchange, so it does require people to be polite and allow for merging traffic. We do have some changes on both I-270 and the ramps in that area with a project that starts later this year. That work may ease some of the building congestion, but there are no changes planned with the ramps to EB I-64 and Ballas at this time. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
