Crews spend a great deal of time -- more than 24,000 hours so far this year -- policing the 6,000 miles of state-maintained shoulder in the greater St. Louis area -- it's one of their top priorities after those items to keep the roadway safe, such as pothole patching. The department spends more than $6 million annually to help keep the roadways across Missouri picked up and we get a lot of help from our Adopt-A-Highway and Sponsor-A-Highway partners to augment that, as well as incarcerated crews. The pandemic has, however, made both AAH and incarcerated activities more challenging. Drivers around the St. Louis area can also do their part, by making sure that they have (and use) a bag for trash in their vehicle, and that they cover any loads as they move around the region. if you see an area on the interstates or state numbered or lettered routes that needs some attention, please feel free to contact our customer service team, 24/7 at 314-275-1500 or 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) to share your observations. The roundabouts are signed to help you move through them -- of course being cautious for traffic entering and within the roundabout. If you follow the signs and indications on the left lane of the roundabout heading toward the eastbound Route 100 ramp, you do move into the right lane (crossing over the lanes coming from the north). Crews are working to update the median barriers between eastbound and westbound 364/N at the I-64 interchange. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Do you have a specific time when you see this issue? I have passed it along to our traffic team, but if you are seeing it during a specific time, the additional information may help them narrow down the issue. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
All the pavement (including sidewalks) should be brought back to the original condition. However, if the original pavement /sidewalk is not currently to ADA standards, the department can't ask the utility to design/install a compliant sidewalk. We do have a project on Route 366 from Geyer to just west of the city limits. I have asked our permit team and utility team to check into this area and see if there are additional repairs that might need to be identified to the utility company, and share it with the county if they need to work with the utility company. We are rehabilitating the six bridges at the interchange of I-70 and Route 370. The work should continue through next year. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Thanks so much for the additional details. I have shared your observations with our traffic team as well. I've heard back from our team that we are having some issues with a new cabinet that was installed there. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
You are welcome! Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Apparently, a contractor cut our wire in the area that services our signal -- we send a crew out to check the signal within minutes of being notified of the issue on October 6. We are still waiting for the repair to be completed, but we are anticipating that to be completed by November 10. As a reminder, any red flashing signal needs to be treated as a four-way stop. The detour you recommend - Watson/Mackenzie - is considerably longer than the one we designated. But there are clearly challenges with that latter route, and which we continue to monitor. I'll forward your observations to our Construction group. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation
I'll have to check on the maintenance authority for this road. If it belongs to us, our Operations group will patch the potholes ASAP. David Wrone, St. Louis County's Department of Transportation
I've passed it along to the traffic team for that area to take a look at it, and make sure that it meets all the requirements. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
The streets department for the city of St. louis is having staffing issues and are working through them. In some areas we are down significant numbers in our workforce. It is the hope to increase our staffing so we can continue to honor our commitments. In the meantime we are strategizing ways to get the work done. Thank you for your comments.
