Last week, one of our chatters asked: When taking the southbound 270 cloverleaf ramp onto eastbound Page, when you are at the end of the loop approaching Page, the end of a guardrail is perilously close to the road. It is the orange and black "endcap" and it sneaks up on you on your right as you are entering the merge lane. Could someone access that and see if it may be moved back from the road a bit? After checking with our traffic team, they determined that the guardrail placement is correct ,based upon calculations done by our design team. Even though the speed coming from that ramp onto Page is slower than mainline, MoDOT needed to design the guardrail based upon the higher mainline speed from Page to prevent someone from exiting and running onto SB I-270 near the bridge. Last week, a Road Crew chat participant reported numerous potholes on Dielman Rock Island Industrial Drive, between Page and Olive. I have forwarded that information to the City of Olivette, the entity responsible for maintaining this road. David Wrone, St. Louis County Department of Transportation. -
A motorist asked during last week's chat if St. Louis County's Department of Transportation has plans to improve Dielman Road. We do, indeed. Under a project scheduled to begin next spring, Dielman will be resurfaced from Page to Olive. We expect work to be complete by the end of '22 or spring of '23. Thanks for hosting these chats. This question is for the City. Can something be done about the stoplight that cycles for ghost traffic on Papin and Truman Parkway/18th? This is particularly problematic in the evening rush hour when traveling southbound on the Parkway in that if the light turns red for non-existent (99% of the time) Papin or Ameren UE traffic, the light turns green on Chouteau. By the time that the light at Papin turns green, the light at Choteau turns red, so essentially you have to sit through two red lights for no reason. I have seen drivers disregard the light at Papin (including the police) probably for this reason. Can the lights be changed to flashing yellow for the Parkway traffic and flashing red for the Papin and Ameren traffic? The same method could also be employed at Gratiot and Truman Parkway.

The I-270 North team made signal timing adjustments at Dunn/Graham when we closed the WB I-270 exit ramp to Hanley/Graham. The adjustments were meant to improve North/South movement along Hanley/Graham. The team will observe the signal timing and traffic operations to see if there are adjustments that can be made to improve operations.” Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

I know that there is some construction going on on the overpass where 364 turns into N over I-64 but I can't find any postings about that section. What work is going on there? Are there any plans to improve the Eastbound offramp to left turn onto Town Square Ave part of that intersection?

For the city: I noticed what appears to be prep work - for not one, but two - "humps" being installed in the short block of Bancroft, just E of the Chippewa/Watson merge.
With crew shortages being cited for the inability to repair potholes/other significant damage on arterials, this seems like a misuse of their resources right now - especially if it's being done to compel drivers to "take the long way home" further E on Chippewa/S on Hampton or Macklind (neither of which need increased volume) to reach the Southampton neighborhood/surroundings from Watson/Chippewa.
Are my suspicions - about the work being "hump"-related, and the motive for same (assuming you know) - correct?
