Jarred by potholes? Frustrated by road construction? Ask the Road Crew your questions

Ask the experts from the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Louis and St. Charles counties and St. Louis City your questions about highways and roads. The live chat starts at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

I believe in the past you have said that you usually divert folks who normally pick up waste and trash to winter/snow operations. With extremely limited snow this year and the interstates looking terrible why not shift them back and forth as needed?
Our maintenance teams usually have a heavy slate of tasks to complete along the roadway through the entire year, to ensure the roadways stay safe and operational.  In winter, one of the highest priorities is treating and plowing roadways -- which can sometimes take long hours and multiple shifts.  When they aren't doing that, they address other roadway issues (including debris pickup) on a priority basis -- those tasks which help ensure a safe and operational roadway are the ones which are typically scheduled first.  Additionally, in winter, the teams that volunteer for Adopt-A-Highway and Sponsor-a-Highway don't typically go out -- weather tends to put a damper on those efforts.  If you see areas with high concentrations of trash, please feel free to let our customer service team know, and they can share it with our maintenance team.  Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
For MODOT - on EB I-70 (and probably on WB, as well), a new climbing lane was recently completed and opened near MM 170. The new signage is confusing, since it says "Climbing Lane Ends" (guess which one!). It would be more clear if the sign said "Left Lane Ends", instead. Thanks!
Thanks for your suggestion.  We have passed it along to the team overseeing that project. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
Jefferson County MODOT spent a good portion of the summer redoing the drainage ditches open the side of Highway F between FF and Highway O. They did a very nice job. In the Fall/Early winter they came through with a tree trimming thrasher style machine and filled the ditches up with tree branches. Seems to me it was a waste of time redoing the ditches just to fill them back up.
Thank you for sharing the observation.  I have reached out to our team for the Jefferson County area to see if I can get more information on the situation.  If I hear anything back, I'll share it with you.  Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
