Is Bayless from I-55 to Lemay Ferry going to be resurfaced soon? It has to be the worst stretch of paved road I’ve ever driven on.

We expect work to begin late this year on our Bayless Road improvement project. We'll be resurfacing the road from Union to Lemay Ferry Road, and also removing and replacing the bridge on Bayless just east of I-55. Deficient curbing and sidewalk panels will also be removed and replaced, among other improvements. The project won't be finished until late '23, at the earliest. Two items:

1) MoDOT - Huge pothole on 44 WB (the old 70 WB) just before the Broadway bridge construction zone in the right most lane.

2) STL City - Jefferson NB needs restriping approaching Park.

A few weeks ago I inquired about filling in a pothole on westbound I-44 just past the Vandeventer bridge. While the pothole was filled in, it seems to have caved in more and the fix didn't take, which I am guessing was due to weather. However, a more permanent fix is needed before someone experiences damage to their car or it causes an accident. Now that the temperatures are warming up, do you think a longer-lasting fix can be implemented? Thanks.

Generally, while temperatures are colder, our teams have to fill potholes, since asphalt plants aren't producing the asphalt for patching. I've passed your observation along to our maintenance team to take another look at this area -- we may still need to wait a bit more for other patching options. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

That is a permit project. From what we are told, there was some additional design work that needed to be completed before the project can be wrapped up. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Ole yeller is angled wrong at Pershall and Hanley/Graham when you are headed south on Hanley/Graham. Also too many potholes/craters to report in both directions on Hall Street from Adelaide to Riverview. Most of those have been caused by truck traffic.

Thanks for your observations. I have shared your information on Pershall and Hanley/Graham with our construction team at I-270 North. I am checking with our maintenance team on Hall Street. Eb 44 after the 141 ramp is a "lane ends" graphic sign. I'm wondering if it's left over before you created the exit only to Bowles because that lane doesn't end. If it's referencing the 141 ramp lane ending, the sign is in the wrong spot...the lane has already ended.

We have plans to remove that sign and install a new one a little further back. Right now, we have a sign moratorium that is holding up the sign installation. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Hello.. this post is for MODOT and the City of STL. i work downtown and i always go 70 west home every night. Since the broadway bridge has been taken down i have to take the detour that was posted by MODOT of broadway north to north market to 10th street then to the 10th street entrance ramp to 70 west. And i will tell you this is by far the worst detour ever because of the amount of potholes there are along the way. if you are going to supply a detour at least make the ride smooth! i drive a 4x4 truck and i don't even want to go that route.

The worst part is the intersection of North Market and 10th street. the cobblestone is showing and it's deep along with a few deep pot holes. The entrance ramp from 10th street is no better with numerous potholes . That is also not to say that broadway is perfect either. there is a colapsing man hole on broadway and North market along the way.

All i ask is someone from the city or MODOT drive the detour and see how bad it is and make it a smooth detour until the bridge is replaced, please!!! I would love to come back next week and say it's fixed!

As a note, the detour you mention was only intended for the interstate closure when the bridge came down. The only existing detour for the Broadway bridge project is Cass to Tucker to get into downtown. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

That is looking to be early 2024. There are some items that need to be worked through as far as addressing some issues that are not a part of MoDOT responsibilities for the roadway. Andrew Gates, MODOT Communication

Good afternoon.
If I were to file a CSB report for every pavement divot I've seen in the city, I would likely develop nerve damage typing them. Since many reports are probably redundant, it seems like a better approach than responding to complaints would be to grid the city's streets and send repair teams out to drive arterials, scouting and repairing as they go. Has this been considered? Thanks.
