If you missed last night's meeting on the I-70 Cave Springs - Fairground Design Build project, you can see the information shared during the meeting, including displays and a projected construction schedule here: MoDOT I-70 Cave Springs (i70csfg.com). Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

I believe that this question is for MODOT instead of the County, but I have a couple of concerns regarding Watson Road. First, on westbound Watson just past the Regions Bank in the Mackenzie Plaza center there was a plumbing repair done a couple of years ago. However, the patch job does not last very long and has to keep being filled in. It needs attention again. Can a permanent solution be found for this? Second, will Watson be repaved after all oft the utility work is completed from roughly Walmart and further west? If so, what is the timeline? The patch job was subpar at best.

I can certainly ask our maintenance team to take a look at the repair near Mackenzie Plaza and see if there is anything they can do. Typically, utility companies that work within the roadway are required to put the roadway back in its original condition when they are finished. Usually, as the utility work is in process, the utility (or the contractor doing the work for them) will put in a temporary patch -- that way, if there is an issue with the repair (especially with work with water and sewer incidents, they can reaccess the problem area. Once all the work is complete, the utility usually goes through their process to award a contract for the final repair. We anticipate that shortly after they finish the work along Watson. We do, currently, have a project for sidewalk work and resurfacing along Watson currently scheduled for early 2025. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Good Afternoon. I know that Mackenzie Rd is scheduled for repaving, sidewalk replacement, etc. Right now there is utility work being done on Mackenzie. Just curious when the repaving and sidewalk replacement will start and the estimated time of completion? Thanks for doing these weekly chats.

The utility work is preparatory for some of the sidewalk work. We haven't sat down with the contractor yet and gone through the specifics on their proposed schedule, but we anticipate that they will start later this summer -- At this time, we expect the project will probably continue through spring of 2024. Those are predominantly a law enforcement issue. There is often a extensive collaboration between several organizations throughout the region to address situations such as this, to help ensure that issues are addressed safely, respectfully and appropriately.Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

In last week's Road Crew, a chatter asked about our plans to improve Hanley Road in the vicinity of its intersection with Manchester Road. We currently are designing a project that will resurface Hanley/Laclede Station Road from Manchester Road south to Newport Avenue. Under our current schedule, this project would be started in '25 and completed in '26. Plans to improve Hanley north of Manchester are in the embryonic stage, and I have no time table for them. Roadway signs have different shapes and colors due to the intent of the sign -- and those shapes and colors are internationally used. That way, if you are traveling in another country, you immediately can recognize a stop sign, even if you don't necessarily know the language. The purpose of most signs is to be able to get the information shared on the sign without calling to much attention to themselves or creating too much of a distraction. Thank you for changing to 55 E bound exit at River City Blvd to No Turn on Red. Compliance to the recent change, however, has been poor. Could the order of the signals be changed so that the Greenway ped Xing goes white after traffic from the 55 exit has been red for some time, instead of right after the exit's right turn green arrow. It only takes one car obeying the signs to keep all the following cars from plowing through the Greenway crossing.

When MODOT work zones have "do not pass" signs, what does that mean? It may sound like a dumb question, but when it's a multi-lane road, what can drivers do/not do? There is one at the JB bridge zone. Can drivers not pass other cars or not change lanes to pass or just not change lanes?
-
Generally, that means to maintain the same speed as the surrounding traffic and avoid changing lanes if possible. This reduces aggressive driving (which is one of the leading costs of crashes). This helps keep yourself and other traffic safer, as well as the team working on the roadway, and helps more traffic move through the work zone more smoothly. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

We do require utilities to restore the roadway to the condition it was before they started their repairs. Sometimes, they need to ensure the repair is actually holding and they have no additional issues with the utility work, and often times they need to go through their organizational process to award a contract to do the final repairs, which can take some time. Our permit and utility team work closely with the utility through that process. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications
