On roads like Watson or Manchester, when there's a bi-directional center left turn lane ("suicide" lane), what are laws or rules on how it's supposed to operate? Is it only for decelerating and turning? Or, does it also function as acceleration and/or merge lane, for vehicles wanting to return to the four-lane road? Enforcement seems to be non-existent, so I want to make sure that I'm doing the right things, if/when I get into a crash. -
According to Missouri law: 300.215. Required position and method of turning at intersection.:(4) Designated two-way left turn lanes: Where a special lane for making left turns by drivers proceeding in opposite directions have been indicated by official traffic control devices:
(a) A left turn shall not be made from any other lane;
(b) A vehicle shall not be driven in the lane except when preparing for or making a left turn from or into the roadway or when preparing for or making a u-turn when otherwise permitted by law;
(c) A vehicle shall not be driven in the lane for a distance more than five hundred feet.

We currently have a project underway that updates signals and sidewalks along St. Charles Rock Road to just west of I-270. When that work is done, St. Charles Rock Road will get resurfaced. We also have some guardrail work at the interchange. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

What days and times are you seeing this? I can ask the traffic team to take a look at this -- if there is an issue with vehicles not being in the detector's "view" they could perhaps increase the size of the box. Generally speaking, a sensor should give you a smoother traffic flow than a specific timing plan -- except when there is significant traffic in all directions (i.e. during rush periods ). Now that schools are back in session, we are seeing a dangerous back up again at the northbound 170 Ladue Road exit around 8 am. It looks like the signal at Ladue road never turns green for those exiting and then turning right into Clayton unless there is someone going straight into the Ladue Crossing shopping center. Either there is not a sensor in the right turn lane or it is not working. This morning there were at least 10 cars backed up into the right lane of 170N and that was also backing up traffic merging off of Forest Park Parkway. This problem seemed to happen off and on through the spring, but is clearly much worse the last few days.

A bridge replacement project will require us to close Heege Road on September 7, 2021, just west of Valcour in Affton.
We expect the project to be complete, and Heege reopened, before the end of the year. However, uncooperative weather could extend the project - and the road closure - into late spring of 2022.
Motorists will need to use Laclede Station Road, Valcour and Weber to circumvent the closure.

Thanks for your question. The project is to reduce backups and improve the traffic flow at the interchange of Route 141 and Route 364 -- which does backup significantly in the mornings and evenings. No question, just wanted to genuinely thank you all for the recent road changes in the South Hampton neighborhood. Just South of Chippewa all the way down to Wilmore park went down to two driving lanes and a turn lane, making the area much safer for drivers and pedestrians alike. Thank you thank you thank you!

While driving down Manchester Road, I've been noticing boxes with antennaes that have recently been put in. There is one on the median of Manchester near 141. I'm thinking they are updated traffic count devices or license plate readers. I've seen a couple more between Weidmann and Baxter too. Do you know if MODOT has placed them? Thanks!

I checked with our traffic team and we did install some traffic counters along Route 100 from McKnight out to Wildwood. We also placed some similar counters along Lindbergh. MoDOT wouldn't install a license plate reader -- that would be law enforcement or the municipality under a permit. Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

Hello, i live in Maryland Heights right off McKelvey north of Aquaport. There has been a lot of work on the road lately looks like American Water laying new lines. Some of it is paved really smooth north of Sungrove drive, the south side is really rough. Are there plans for Mckelvey to get totally resurfaced after the work is done since there are other parts of the area are in rough shape? i also heard rumors that the county will be installing sidewalks all the way up and down Mckelvey? If so when will this happen?

We require utility companies to restore to its original condition any pavement disturbed by their work. I'm checking with our planning/design team to see if we have any plans to resurface McKelvey.
