In last week's chat, a motorist asked if St. Louis County has an improvement project scheduled for Mattis Road, between Ambs and Tesson Ferry. We do not. We currently rate the pavement on this stretch of roadway at a '5' (with '10' being pavement in pristine condition). Also in last week's chat, a resident asked for an update on our bridge removal project on Heege Road, just east of Laclede Station Road. Utility-related delays forced our contractor to stop work for several weeks in October, and the project consequently may not be complete until early '22. However, late '21 is still possible. David G. Double-deck structures -- such as the section of I-64 through the downtown area near the stadium -- are not typically used now, due to concerns about the potential consequences during seismic incidents. On I-70 westbound, almost to Kingdom City, there is repair on the Auxvasse Creek bridge. The backup is 2-4 miles, easily a 30-90 minute delay. WHY is there no detour posted. I saw motorists crossover the grass on the right to get onto the service road on the North of the interstate. Quite unsafe!

There are no good detour routes for that particular construction project -- our central district office has highly encouraged drivers to use alternate routes to avoid the project:

repost: Telegraph Road in South STL County is well marked as route MO-231. I’ve noticed in the past week on Telegraph a couple of new route number signs that use the US Highway shield, thus denoting Telegraph Road as US-231. How can it be both signed as a State and US Highway? And how can it be “US-231” when there already is a US-231 running from Indiana to Alabama?

In checking with our traffic division, we have no plans for replacing any signs for Route 231 as a U.S. Highway -- nor is there any change of route designation set up for the state-maintained section on Telegraph. It is possible that you are seeing wayfinder signs (for instance for U.S. 61 in Jefferson County or 50/61/67 in St. Louis County where the sign has gotten damaged or some other indicator may have fallen off. If you have specific locations where you see the U.S. highway shields along Telegraph, please let us know, and we can have our traffic team check it out . Andrew Gates, MoDOT Communications

I make a left turn from West-bound Gravois to southbound 270 every morning. It seems the lights are out of sync. I stop at the first light (the ramp from N-bound 270 to Gravois) and when the light turns green it is absolutely impossible to make the light that turns left to enter S-bound 270. Sometimes the light turns green and goes red again before I get there. Sometimes the light turns green while I am stopped at the first light and is red again by the time I get to it. There was a time when once the first light turned green, you would make the second. That does not occur anymore. Can this be fixed?
